Administration
* Board of Directors Members Michael Allison, Glenn Fellows, Perry Lovelace, and Douglas Mehrens continued general oversight and trusteeship and began long range planning for the Institute;
* Created an artists/ board to initiate and oversee Institute programs. Thanks to board members Harriette Tsosie, President; Russell Thurston, Program Director; Carol Ware and Kate Palmo, Education Directors; Linda Fillhardt, Blog Manager; Kari Gorden, Membership Director; Cherry and Jamie Rohe and Sallyann Paschall, Exhibit Installations.
Calendar for 2011
* The Institute will offer a full program of encaustic workshops for 2011 in addition to its exhibitions and member programs. Check the web site and blog for details.
Collection
* Established an Institute collection with 26 works of art now included.
Education
* Hosted three workshops at the Institute;
* Hosted pre opening demonstrations of the encaustic process in the Pyramid Gallery
* Presented outreach programs at the Hispanic Cultural Center, for a senior citizens group, and at the Open Space Gallery (Albuquerque), The Academy for Technology and the Classics, Monte Sol Charter School and Fayette Street Academy (Santa Fe).
Encaustic Art: the Magazine
* Laid groundwork for a quarterly electronic Encaustic Art magazine; first edition is slated for online publication in April 2011. Thanks to Nanette Newbry for her work on this.
Endowment and Fundraising
* Sold 12 members’ paintings and two sculptures at the Second Annual Fundraising Gala, with $5,800 proceeds to the Institute. Special thanks to Barbara Gagel, Teena Robinson, and Body and Soul (music);
* Established the Encaustic Art Fund to immediately provide full sales revenue to the artist while the collector pays installments;
* Created an endowment fund for sustainable support of the Institute. Exhibitions and Sales
* Sold 26 members’ paintings with income of $12,500 all going to the artist members;
* Hosted six “themed” exhibitions and two off site shows (Albuquerque and Santa Fe)
* Continually exhibited members’ works in the Pyramid Gallery from February through November.
Facility
* Completed Pyramid Gallery including storage space and installation of a bathroom;
* Began construction of a workshop facility;
* Opened the sculpture garden and now represent four sculptors.
Library
* Created a members’ library with art books donated by Institute founder Douglas Mehrens. An anonymous donor is leaving books to the library in her Will. Special thanks to member Nancy Gott for cataloging the library, now online.
Marketing
* Advertised monthly in THE Magazine; special exhibition advertisement also in Local IQ as well as articles in Albuquerque Arts and two issues of New Mexico Magazine.
* Sent press releases and calendar listings for all exhibition openings.
* Special thanks to Louise Casselman, Teena Robinson, and Russell Thurston, graphic designers extraordinaire.
Membership
* Reached goal of 100 members. Memberships represent 15 states, two Canadian provinces and Mexico.
* Established an “Affiliated Network Partnership” category to enable other encaustic networks and organizations to be involved with the Institute, i. e., International Encaustic Artists and Texas Wax;
* Sent out calls for art and frequent communications regarding Institute and other exhibition opportunities;
* Held monthly members’ meetings.
Programs
* Hosted members programs, both on and off campus, including how to photograph encaustic work; integrating pigment and oil paint with encaustic; making molds and working in 3-D; social media and how to use it; an exploration of different waxes and medium; and how to work representationally in encaustic.
Technology
* Updated the Institute web site: www.eainm.com
* Established a Facebook page. Thanks to Stephanie Huerta and Michael Pearce for creation and maintenance of this social network;
* Created blog for member news, workshop announcements and other encaustic art related information; members are listed with links to their web sites. Special thanks to Linda Fillhardt for her unending work on this.
