Juried by Bruce Helander, Editor-in-Chief of the Art Economist magazine. His work is in over fifty museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, Brooklyn Museum, Smithsonian, and many more.  Bruce narrowed the artists field to fifty-seven, representing nation-wide artists working with encaustic/wax.  The diversity of this medium, (second oldest art form in history), spans both traditional and contemporary styles, including cross-over media.  This Exhibition represents artists from across the nation, including eighteen artists from New Mexico.

The Encaustic Art Institute will be holding beginning classes starting this summer, Saturdays from 9 -1 pm at our new location.


June 13th and 27th
July 11th and 25th
August 8th and 22nd

All materials provided, and a take home $20 beginners kit from Enkaustikos included.

Classes are limited to 8 people
Hours: 9 am to 1 pm
$100 per person

From Novice to Seasoned Pro
Whether you use a smart phone, point-and-shoot or professional camera to take your photographs, you will enjoy learning to use the ancient encaustic process to enhance them. These fun-filled full and half day workshops will provide you with a variety of techniques you can use to apply layers of tinted beeswax to your images and turn them into creative works of art. Professional photographer and encaustic artist, Angel Wynn, demonstrates a variety of procedures. Each participant will have hands-on to create their own photo-encaustic art pieces from their photographs. Workshops are designed for all levels of experience. All materials are included and participants walk away with encaustic artwork. To provide the best learning experience, classes are limited to 4 adults. So book early to guarantee your spot.

A four day encaustic workshop:

This four day workshop in my quiet light filled encaustic studio, with views of the mountains,  is the perfect opportunity to take four days for yourself, and focus on your work, to take your work  to the next level. Whether you are new to encaustic, or more experienced, we will consider where you are coming from, and even more importantly, where you want to go with your work...what you want to achieve. You can work on paintings up to 24” in any direction, and think about putting them together to create even larger work. In addition, a variety of new techniques will be introduced.

For beginning encaustic painters, you will get a complete grounding in all the basics, and enough time and opportunity to really explore the medium's potential.For those with more experience, you can go beyond where you are at to even more exciting possibilities.
