Encaustic Art Institute Move's to Santa Fe- Grand Opening

ENCAUSTIC ART INSTITUTE
HAS MOVED TO SANTA FE

The encaustic/wax movement comes to Santa Fe. The Encaustic Art Institutes has moved it’s headquarters from Cerrillos NM to Santa Fe’s Railyard Arts District. The new 4500 square foot gallery located at 632 Agua Fria, features a Permanent Collection that demonstrates the diversity of this ancient medium and a gallery with over 100 pieces of encaustic/wax artwork for sale. The wide range of encaustic artwork comes from their 180 members nation-wide. The outreach to the community will be a place to learn about the encaustic medium, such as demonstrations, workshops and teaching children.

The Encaustic Art Institute is also celebrating its 10th anniversary during their grand opening on Saturday March 27th from 6-9 pm. There will be art, food, bar and live jazz that evening to create a festive gala opening. This will be a ticketed event. For more information or to reserve your tickets, contact the Encaustic Art Institute at 505-989-3283 or mehrens@eainm.com. Tickets will also be available at the door the day of the event by cash or check only. As a non-profit organization (501C3), artists will receive 70% from the sales of their artwork. Local encaustic artists will volunteer their time to man the museum/gallery so that donations and portion of art sales will go back to funding The Encaustic Art Institute’s new center.

To also help fund the new facility, The 901 Gallery will join the Encaustic Art Institute during it’s first year of operating the new space. For the entire month of April – the 901 Gallery will be exhibiting Gina Marie Erlichman, Robert Gigliotti, Karen Frey, Niki Sherey, Paul Steiner and Carrie Quade in a portion of the new space.  The planned schedule of operation is from Wednesday through Sunday from 10am-5pm.

Two Day Encaustic Workshop with Karen Frey

Contemporary Realism

Two Day Encaustic Workshop with Karen Frey
March 28 & 29 from 10:00am-4:00pm
Location:  Sherry & John's Studio
4 Zorrito Court
Santa Fe, NM  87508

Cost:  $575 all materials included
The goal of this workshop will be to complete a painting. While this may sound ridiculously easy, it may be more challenging than you think. During the workshop we will discuss many basic painting elements such as composition, applications, linear drawing, characteristics of pigment, color theory and color development. In addition we will contemplate aesthetic concerns.

I will demonstrate a number of stages that play a part in the evolution of a painting. Following each demonstration the class participants will attend to that particular step on their own paintings. We will volley back and forth: I work / you work as often as our paintings need and time allows.
During the student painting sessions I will make every effort to speak to each student on an individual basis.
